The Winter Weather Advisory for locally heavy snow has been extended to 2 p.m. Wednesday for Lake and Cook Counties in Illinois and Lake and Porter Counties in Indiana.

Brief, but intense lake-effect snow could add as much as an inch or two per hour at any given point into the afternoon hours.

As winds north to northeast winds gusting over 30 miles per hour converge along the Illinois lake Michigan shoreline, snow squalls have developed temporarily dropping visibilities to occasionally near zero right along and just inland of the shoreline (check weather radar mosaic above).

As the winds very slowly shift more north to northwest, these briefly intense snow showers will gradually curl south and east – eventually moving away from the Illinois shoreline to the northwest Indiana shoreline into the afternoon hours.
