Today’s warm-up won’t last long—but warm 80-degree and higher temperatures are to return later this week.

The wind-shifting cold frontal passage predicted Wednesday  night is behind the resurging warmth’s limited stay.

The northeast winds around the eastern flank of a Canadian high pressure system predicted to take hold Wednesday night and Thursday will lend the air a bit of an autumn feel again, dropping temperatures and humidities modestly. But warmth and humidity are to stage a comeback this weekend.

A wind-shift off the lake Saturday night and Sunday may temper the resurging warmth once again.

With temperatures predicted to flirt with 90 Saturday and again next Tuesday, it’s interesting to note that 65% of all Septembers since observations began at Midway Airport in 1928 have produced at least one 90-degree or warmer day.
