CHICAGO --Showers and thunderstorms continue to rumble across the Chicago metro area Wednesday evening.

Storms in the late afternoon produced some hail and gusty winds in addition to heavy rainfall.

In rush-hour traffic, the heavy rains made for a difficult commute to the South.

In Plano, there was localize flooding on residential streets.

In Spring Grove a lightning strike started a small fire and caused damage to a house. No injuries were reported.

In Addison another lightning strike is believed to have caused a fire and a hole in the roof of a home.

The power was out throughout several blocks.

Motorists should be alert for standing or ponding water on roads and avoid driving into flooded areas.
