Thunderstorms sweep through area after hot, humid afternoon

Sticky to oppressive humidity levels for Chicago Saturday and air quality issues for many.

Severe storms across the area late Saturday afternoon left downed trees and other damage on the city’s Northwest Side and in the immediate suburbs. The Dunning and Portage Park neighborhoods as well as Norridge and Harwood Heights experienced much of the damage.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for portions of Will County, Kankakee County and Lake County, Indiana until 7 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Porter County, Indiana until 7 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for much of Will County until 6:15 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Northwest Indiana and much of the South Suburbs until 6 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 4:45 p.m. for northern Cook County, including Arlington Heights, Evanston and Schaumburg.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for much of the city of Chicago and central Cook County until 5:15 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the entire area and is in effect until 10 p.m.
