For the second time in a month, Chicago Public Schools called off school for 400,000 students and canceled after-school and sporting activities.
“The safety and well-being of our students is paramount,” said CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett in a written statement. “The decision to close schools is never easy. However, based on the severity of the weather we are expecting Monday, I am confident that this decision is in the best interest of CPS students.”
Suburban districts from Highland Park to Plainfield are also closed many for the third day this month.
Some doctors say closing schools is for the best.
Several museums, including the Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium, will also be closed today.
CPS and school officials in many suburbs say they’ll decide later today whether to cancel classes tomorrow.
