CHICAGO -- Saturday saw a severe thunderstorm watch issued covering much of the Chicago area and building afternoon/evening thunderstorms triggered significant flooding over Interstate-80 near Marseilles.
Southerly winds will bring more of the same Sunday and Monday with southerly winds allowing warm moist air to continue to flow into our increasingly unstable environment. There should be periods of showers and thunderstorms with strongest storms most likely during the peak-heating afternoon/early evening hours both days.
Severe storms with damaging winds and hail are likely. Downpours with an inch or more rainfall in short periods of time will probably cause localized flooding of creeks and streams as well as low-lying flood-prone areas.
