(CHICAGO) — The Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals were tied 2-2 in the top of the 9th inning when the umpire crew stopped the game for a rain delay Friday night. The game was officially suspended and will resume Saturday at 1:10 p.m. weather permitting. Game two of the series will be played approximately 40 minutes following the conclusion of the suspended game.

Play went on for as long as possible in the midst of nasty conditions including steady rainfall and low 40 degree temperatures.

The Royals struck first in the 3rd inning after Alcides Escobar drove in Paulo Orlando with an RBI single off Jose Quintana.

The White Sox evened the game in the 4th inning on a Tyler Flowers RBI ground out before Kansas City retook the lead in the 5th.

After an Adam Eaton triple in the 7th inning, Melky Cabrera drove him in with a sacrifice fly to even the score at 2-2.
