PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Villanova commit Jalen Brunson scored 30 points to lead Lincolnshire Stevenson to a state title Saturday, beating Normal Community 57-40 during the 4A boys championship game.

Brunson hit just 4-of-18 shots during Friday’s semifinals. But in the title game, he was 9-for-15 from the field, hit all nine of his free throws and controlled the game from start to finish.

The Patriots held Normal’s top-two players, Alex Peacock and Tyler Seibring, to just four points and 12 points, respectively. Both entered the game averaging 15.

Justin Smith added 12 points for Stevenson (30-3). Seibring grabbed 10 rebounds for the Ironmen (33-2).

With the win, Stevenson becomes just the second team to win both a football title and a basketball title in the same year. Maroa-Forsyth did it first in 2006-2007.
