MAYWOOD, Ill. -- Cubs fans are experiencing a range of emotions during this World Series. A clinical psychologist offers a few tips on what to do if the stress becomes too much.

Dr. Michael Hakimi of Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood says the anxiety level across the Chicago area and Cubs nation is high.

For most it's fun, but for some baseball fans it can become a problem -- interfering with work, relationships, and other activities of daily functioning like eating and sleeping.

For those who have a history of depression and anxiety, high stakes games can trigger those conditions.

Dr. Hakimi says anyone experiencing these conditions should not hesitate to get some professional help.

His advice can be hard for some -- not to become consumed with any sporting event, and if pressure is too high change the channel or walk away from the TV.

Watch with others, he says, and if you're feeling strong emotions talk about those feelings. Putting them in words acts as a form of emotional catharsis.

If the anxiety becomes too uncomfortable, relax the brain and body with some deep breathing, walk away from the TV, and close your eyes.
