MESA, Ariz. – Right now the only thing causing any problems with the Cubs are thumbs.
The team and fans got a scare when Jake Arrieta had a thumb blister that forced him out of a start against the Giants last Thursday.
Now a bruise will keep one of the Cubs’ infielders on the disabled list to start the season.
As they announced their final roster Tuesday afternoon the Cubs announced that Javier Baez will start the season on the 15-day disabled list with a thumb contusion.
Baez suffered the injury during a spring training game on March 20th.
In finalizing their opening day roster the Cubs announced that infielder Tommy LaStella, outfielder Matt Szczur, and reliever Neil Ramirez were among the last to make the 25-man roster.
