CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs championship run is making them part of another tradition in Chicago.
For the first time ever, the lions outside the Art Institute of Chicago will be wearing Cubs batting helmets. They were installed at about 8 a.m. Monday.
In a 1984 partnership with the Cubs, the lions did wear soft, stuffing-filled DIY hats, but the Art Institute says this is the first time the lions have worn helmets, as well as the only time they’ve worn them during a World Series with the Cubs.
The lions also wore helmets for the Bears, White Sox, and the Blackhawks during their championship runs also.
