ST. LOUIS– The Cubs ended the road trip tonight with Scott Feldman on the mound facing St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Lance Lynn.
Lynn was 4-1 with a 2.70 earned-run average in six games against the Cubs, and 9-1 overall for the season.
Lynn notched his tenth win, allowing one runs on three hits over six innings in a 6-1 win.
After a one-out double by Matt Carpenter in the third and a walk to Carlos Beltran, Matt Holliday hit one into the hole that Starlin Castro tried to backhand. The ball glanced off Castro’s glove for an RBI single, giving the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.
Castro popped out with the bases loaded to end the fifth, and the Cardinals broke it open with four in the sixth off Feldman and Hector Rondon.
“We have the opportunity to have a 4-3 trip here and split with the best team in baseball, so if we win tonight it’s a pretty good road trip,” manager Dale Sveum said before the game. “But it could’ve been really, really good. That’s kind of been our season- a lot of coulda, wouldas.”
