CHICAGO – Artemi Panarin took the NHL by storm last year, scoring 30 goals while dishing out 47 assists in his first season with Blackhawks.

The league took notice and awarded the rookie Russian phenom with the Calder Trophy.

Now Panarin wants to be paid for his production.

He’s currently in the last year of his entry-level contract and according to the Chicago Tribune Panarin is asking for a lucrative extension in the ballpark of $6 million per year.

Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman opted not to elaborate on the contract talks when asked about it earlier today.

“I don’t think it’s a productive thing to kind of negotiate through the media. Obviously, Artemi is a big part of our team. We’re excited for the season he had. We’re looking forward to him building on that as well. And then the negotiations will be what they are between his agent and myself. I respect Tom, he’s a very knowledgeable guy and I know Artemi put a lot of faith in him. Tom and I will work to get something done.”

Panarin is expected to return from World Cup play on Friday.
