In Unusual Election Year, Democratic Veepstakes Key for Biden

Political Report

An already unprecedented election season, makes another move towards the abnormal.

Former vice president Joe Biden announced he will no longer travel to Milwaukee to accept the Democratic party’s nomination. Instead, rising coronavirus cases will keep Biden in his home state of Delaware.

That means there will be no live speeches of any kind inside the planned convention – everything is shifting to digital. But, there is one election-year tradition that will remain the same: rampant speculation over who will be chosen as Biden’s running mate.
A former veep himself, Biden promised during the primary race that he would choose a woman to join him on the ballot, and in the wake of George Floyd’s death, many are calling on him to choose a woman of color.

Rebecca Sive, political strategist and author of Vote Her In, discusses the shortlist.
