WOODSTOCK, Ill. — On Groundhog Day, many Americans wait to find out whether Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow, signaling six more weeks of winter.
In Illinois, that honor goes to Woodstock Willie in Woodstock, Ill., the town where Bill Murray’s 1993 classic “Groundhog Day” was filmed.
Willie looked around early Saturday and did not see his shadow — meaning spring is just around the corner.
Woodstock has embraced its place in Hollywood history with an annual festival.
On Saturday, actor Stephen Tobolowsky, who played insurance salesman Ned Ryerson in the film, joined the festivities. It was his second time back to the town since “Groundhog Day” was filmed there.
