Police say the man is in custody and that charges are pending.

Elk Grove Deputy Chief Chuck Walsh called it a domestic incident and said no patients were ever in danger.

“The suspect was taken in to custody immediately, and has been cooperating,” he said.

Walsh said police were notified at 11:36 a.m. to the hospital reporting the incident that happened inside a patient’s room.

He said the man and the victim, 42-year-old Francisca Quintero, were visiting another a relative, when the stabbing occurred.

A weapon has been recovered.

Members of MCAT (Major Case Assistant Team) are still interviewing witnesses. Walsh says there are many extended family members they are talking to.
