CHICAGO — A woman was critically injured after she accidentally slipped under the wheel of a moving police car, police said.

Police said officers were sitting inside the car and speaking with a 34-year-old woman standing outside in the 2000 block of East 71st Street around 6:05 p.m. Wednesday.

As officers were driving away, police said her right leg lodged under the passenger side tire of the squad car.

The woman was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition with a broken leg.

Police said it is unclear what the woman was talking to officers about. They said she was not a suspect in a crime and hadn’t done anything wrong.

No one else was injured.

Major Accidents Investigation Unit was looking into the incident.
