EVANSTON, Ill. –  A Chicago woman is charged with setting off an explosive inside a restroom at a Target store in Evanston.

Heidi E. Schmidt, 44, of the 4000 block of West Crystal Street in Chicago, appeared at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building Saturday where a judge set bond at 250-thousand dollars.   Schmidt is charged with aggravated arson and unlawful possession of an explosive or incendiary device.

Investigators say she set off an explosion in a bathroom stall at Target at about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

A witness was inside the bathroom at the time of the blast but no one was injured and the damage was limited to the stall.

Police say they recovered materials used to create a chemical high and there is no evidence the explosion was targets at the retail chain’s restroom policy for transgendered people.
