AURORA, Ill. — A 95-year-old woman has died after she lost control of her car and drove into a retention pond in Aurora on Friday.

Helen Duncan, of the 4900 block of Douglas Road in Downers Grove, was pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the Aurora Police Department.

Duncan was driving her 1997 Ford Crown Victoria southbound on DuPage Parkway when she made a hard-right turn onto Bilter Road about 1:35 p.m. Friday, police said. She was speeding and lost control of the car — which ultimately went into a retention pond.

Several residents, including an off-duty DuPage County Forrest Preserve officer and an off-duty Cicero Auxiliary Police officer, dove into the water to help, authorities said. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital.

An autopsy is pending.
