CHICAGO — A woman was seriously injured after being attacked by a pair of pit bulls on the South Side Monday evening.

A 68-year-old woman was attacked by the dogs at 65th Street and Evans Avenue in West Woodlawn. She is now in serious condition at Stroger Hospital.

The attack may have been worse had it not been for a passing motorist that stopped and tried to help get the dogs off of her.

Gregory Mallette said he saw her crossing the street when the dogs attacked out of nowhere. He said he

first tried hitting the dogs with his car but he was worried about hurting the woman.

He then gathered up some bricks and started throwing them at the animals.

He said that’s when police arrived and the dogs turned on them.

He said one of the officers waited until the last second, then pulled the trigger.

Police are trying to find the dogs’ owner. One of the dogs suffered a gunshot wound. Both dogs were taken by animal control.
