CHICAGO-- Several dogs were reportedly hit by a speeding SUV Thursday evening in the city’s Edgewater neighborhood.

Lawrence Fishman says he saw Thursday night's disturbing incident-- along with countless other Park Tower residents with a bird's eye view of the park district bike path off the 5300 block of Sheridan.

Police are not providing many details, but numerous witnesses say there may have been more than one gunman in a white or perhaps silver colored Jeep Cherokee, firing as many as 10 or 11 shots; one bullet reportedly lodged in the window of a nearby high rise.

The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m.

One witness, Cathy Castro, couldn’t believe her eyes, three or four gunmen in the SUV spraying bullets in all directions.

Castro says several dogs were hit by the speeding SUV.

Killed in the bizarre incident was her beloved five-and-a-half-year old terrier, Scruffy.

The hope is surveillance cameras at Park Tower and elsewhere captured important details about the vehicle so police can find the culprit before anyone is killed.
