WHEATON, Ill. — A tenured, Christian professor at Wheaton College is put on administrative leave for her recent support for Muslims.

Dr. Larycia Hawkins announced on Facebook, she would wear a veil to show religious solidarity.

She also said Muslims, like Christians, are people of the book. Hawkins planned to wear the hijab everywhere she went until Christmas as part of her Christian Advent devotion.

Her supporters say she didn’t violate the Statement of Faith, and she was acting out of love.

But, Wheaton College says there are fundamental differences between the two faiths.

Students for and against the college in this controversy demonstrated outside the main administration building on Wednesday afternoon. Opponents later plan to hold a “sit-in” at the office of the President.
