Despite the chilly start to the weekend, the weather is expected to improve.

WGN Meteorologist Mike Hamernik says sunshine will break through Saturday, accompanied with lighter winds.

The temperature will settle at 50  degrees, with residents feeling about a 10 degree drop along the lake front. Temperatures will go up Sunday, to 60 degrees with sunshine.

A storm system may pass through on Monday. Afterwards, Hamernik says we may see our first 70 degree day of the year.

It’s a considerable improvement from recent months. According to a statement released Tuesday by the National Weather Service, Chicago experienced its coldest four-month period on record between December 2013 and March 2014.
