FAIRDALE, Ill -- The National Weather Service says three survey teams were out today and that they believe the tornado was an EF4 and a half mile wide.

The NWS says the most extensive damage happened in Ashton and Fairdale and think it's possible two tornadoes could have touched down at once.

Also, upon our research, this is the first EF4 strength tornado to hit not only the Chicago area but the state of Illinois since April 3, 1981, and before that you have to go back to the deadly Oak Lawn/Belvidere tornado outbreak on April 21, 1967.
