WAUKEGAN, Ill. — Another night of severe storms led to flash flooding across the Chicago-area Friday morning, especially in the northern suburbs. In Waukegan, firefighters had to rescue residents trapped in their homes on Helmholz Ave. near Jackson Street. Fire crews had to carry members of a family — including a child — and their pets to safety. On the same street, a man and his 14-year-old son were displaced due to major flooding in their home. Vehicles became submerged in high-standing water, leaving motorist stranded on Route 41 in Lake Forest. Police made several rescues overnight, but no injuries were reported. Several roadways in Lake County are shut down Friday due to flooding, they are: The Lake County Sheriff issued a warning not to drive through flood waters, reminding people it is not worth the risk of drowning or destroying your vehicle.   The National Weather Service reported nearly 3.5 inches (8.9 centimeters) of rain had fallen in Lake County since Thursday evening.
