CHICAGO — From the city’s Loop to the Edgewater neighborhood, crime is on a sharp upswing on Chicago’s North Side.

According to CWB Chicago, violent crime this year is up 61 percent in the Loop, 42 percent in Lincoln Park and 44 precent in Edgewater.

Several factors are being blamed.

Mayor Emanuel is diverting more police patrols to South and West Side neighborhoods.

Officers are reportedly more hesitant to confront people engaging in criminal activity, for fear of having their arrests posted on viral video.

Some local gangs are said to be offering incentives to cop killers.
