The Village of Matteson is asking a judge to shut down the Lincoln Mall.
Village officials say the mall has dangerous conditions which threaten the health and safety of shoppers and employees.
Officials say the mall has more than 25 fire, safety and building code violations, including exposed electrical wiring, a dismantled fire sprinkler system, blocked fire exits and a crumbling roof and facade.
They want permission from a judge to padlock the door, shutting down all 45 stores inside.
Two business owners from the mall tell WGN reports of the conditions inside the mall are being blown out of proportion. They also say the lawsuit is the result of a power struggle between the owners of the mall in New York and the village.
