CHICAGO — Grief counselors will be in place at an Englewood high school this morning to help classmates of a student who was murdered on the Far Southeast Side.

17-year-old Deonte Hoard was shot Monday near his home near 105th and Yates. His mother says it was a drive by shooting.

Deonte was a student at Urban Prep Englewood Academy, a school with a great track record for getting student to college and Deonte was no different. He had been accepted to a couple of schools when he was gunned down.

His mother says she has no idea who would want to target her son. He had been accepted the mother says to Alabama State University and Florida A&M University.

About 50 people gathered for a vigil for Deonte on Monday night.

No one is in custody.  Police continue to investigate.
