Videos capture tornado touch down near Mendota and Illinois City

As many as eight tornadoes may have touched down west and south of Chicago, causing severe damage in several communities.

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touch down in Coal City.

A viewer captured on video a funnel cloud near Mendota, Illinois.

The tornadoes created heavy damage across a large area and knocked out power to tens of thousands of people.

A storm chaser recorded the video below of a funnel cloud touch down in Illinois City, near the Illinois-Iowa border.

It was spotted at about 7:20 p.m. Monday.

At least five homes were damaged and no injuries have been reported.
