CHICAGO — U-Haul is suing several Chicago-area towing companies, claiming they fraudulently hauled away trucks and trailers.
The lawsuit says the companies charged U-Haul thousands of dollars in fees to return the equipment.
U-Haul’s customers were offered payments to claim false truck breakdowns and request towing.
The customers then used towing companies not authorized by U-Haul.
U-Haul began an investigation after the incidents continued.
According to the lawsuit, one customer took part in three towing incidents.
U-Haul of Illinois seeks more than $50,000 in damages.
