CHICAGO — Two teenage brothers were injured in a shooting, one critically — and police say one shot the other.

The shooting happened just before 7 p.m. Monday near 76th and Emerald in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.

The 18-year-old boy was shot in the head and transferred in “extremely critical” condition to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.

His 16-year-old brother was found a half a mile away, at 73rd and Halsted, with a gun wound to the hip. He was transferred to Advocate Christ Hospital where he is in stable condition.

The 16-year-old told police he was trying to shoot himself, but the gun went off and he accidentally shot his brother.

A source tells WGN that police recovered two guns.

Police are investigating the shooting.
