CHICAGO — The truck driver behind the wheel of a semi-trailer that crashed into vehicles on I-55 early Friday morning is facing charges today. Five people were transported to local hospitals for treatment with non-life threatening injuries. An additional nine people were treated on the scene for their injuries and released.
The Cook County State’s Attorney charged Tipton with a Class 4 Felony of Driving While Fatigued. In addition to the felony charge, Tipton was charged with brake out of adjustment, automatic slack adjusters required, 14-hour rule violation, false report of duty status, and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
