Hanson’s 90’s mega-hit “MMMBop” is officially 20 years old, and they say the world has been singing the catchy tune wrong this entire time.
In honor of the anniversary, Vulture interviewed Taylor, Isaac and Zac Hanson to talk about the legacy of “MMMBop” and how they have never heard a good cover of the song.
“You know why? People can’t sing the chorus right,” said Isaac. “Most of the time they syncopate it wrong.”
The Hanson brothers don’t wish for the covers to stop. They just want someone to get it right.
“Someone needs to either make it totally their own in a genuinely unique way, or it needs to be a band that has a sensibility for old R&B,” Taylor said.
So who do they think could do the classic song justice?
“If Bruno Mars were interested, he’d probably find a way to kill it,” Isaac said.
