A young boy who was found wandering the streets on Chicago’s West Side early Sunday morning has been reunited with his mother.

The 3-year-old boy was found just before 5 a.m. Sunday in the 4900 block of West Adams in the city’s South Austin neighborhood.

Tracy Alexander was with a friend and saw the boy, alone, in the cold and snow.

“I knew he was cold because he didn’t have shoes and  coat,” Tracy said.   “He just kept crying.”

Tracy says she went door to door but couldn’t find the boy’s mom so she and her friend called police for help.

The boy was taken first to the hospital, here he checked out okay and then into Dept Children and Family Services’ custody.

Chicago police say the mom was questioned but this seems to be an accident.  He let himself out.

The boy remains in custody of the DCFS.
