Three Chicago high schools have been kicked out of the Illinois state basketball playoffs for playing too many games.

Bogan and Hyde Park High Schools would have been the top two seeds in their division sectional; and Uplift Community High School would have been the second seed in its sectional; but both Bogan and Hyde Park played 17 non-tournament games — one more than the state allows.

One of Bogan’s games was a charity fundraising event.

Uplift played in four regular season tournaments — one too many.

State high school athletic officials say the experience from those extra games would have given the three schools an unfair competitive advantage in the playoffs.
