A teen has died after he was pulled from a Crystal Lake pond Thursday night.

The 15-year-old was found in eight feet of water in a private pond located in the 6100 block of Haligus Road just after 9:00 p.m.

There was an apparent party going on with a group of high school students who were off from school for Good Friday, according to neighbors.

“My heart goes out to every person involved, there just a wonderful family,” neighbor Kelly Dvoracek said.

Witnesses said the teen stripped off some of his clothes and jumped in to the pond from a pier.

He was taken to Centegra Hospital in critical condition, according to a release from the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.

He was later pronounced dead, the McHenry County Coroner’s Office announced Friday morning. The boy is from Crystal Lake but hid ID was not immediately released.

According to the fire department, crews were called to the scene because the teen was missing and believed to be in the water, which is 20 feet deep in some parts.

An autopsy will be performed Friday afternoon to determine the exact cause of death.

The owners of the home declined to comment.
