HOUSTON — A selfie taken by a police deputy and a teenage boy at a Texas gas station is going viral.
Though at first glance the photo looks like nothing special, the story behind it gives it a world of meaning.
Harris County Deputy Constable Tommi Jones Kelley explains that while she was filling up her patrol car early in the morning, a teenage boy approached her asking if he could stand behind her as she pumped gas.
When she asked ‘why,’ the boy told her he just wanted to make sure she stayed safe.
A thankful Kelley shared the encounter on social media:
The kind gesture comes in the wake of the murder of Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth, who was gunned down in late August while pumping gas at a Houston-area station.
