WAUKEGAN, Ill. — Emergency crews  located the body of a teenage boy who went missing in Lake Michigan Friday afternoon.

The body was recovered from the Waukegan Channel, police and fire officials said.

Crews responded to an emergency call at 3:20 p.m. T

he Waukegan Fire Dept. led the search effort that later turned into a recovery effort with assistance from divers, several surrounding agencies, and a sidescan sonar team.

Authorities believe the teen went missing in the water after trying to swim across the channel with friends.

He was found in water about twenty feet deep.

There are signs posted saying it’s a no swim area but some residents say those signs have been defaced.

Police say no foul play is suspected.
