HINSDALE, Ill. -- Police in Hinsdale are looking for a suspect after a teenage girl was assaulted on the street.

Police say the 16-year-old was exiting a car near the intersection of Clay and Hinsdale Ave around 2:20 p.m. today.  She was struck and knocked to the ground by the suspect who then fled.

The teen, who is a student athlete, remains hospitalized tonight but is expected to be okay.

The suspect is described as a 25-30 year old male, 6’0 with black hair and black facial stubble.  He was wearing black sweat pants and a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up.

“It’s very unusual for something like this to have happened at 2:00 in the afternoon and in such a well-travelled area and we are hoping that someone saw something” Police Chief Kevin Simpson said in a statement.

Police are asking anyone with any information to contact police at 630-789-7070.
