SKOKIE, Ill. – WGN’s Teacher of the Month is on staff at Niles North High School in north suburban Skokie. When his students come to this classroom, they close the books, turn off the computers and turn up the music.

Mike Moehlman is the music teacher at Niles North.

“If there’s a place that I can be involved and teaching, usually I want to be a part of it,” he says.

Under Mike’s direction, the music program at Niles North has grown. But it’s his connection with his students that’s struck just the right chord.

“He’s transformed the program into something that is amazing,” says student Jessica Christiansen.  “It’s like a community we’re all like a family. It really makes us feel comfortable and he really pushes us and he wants us to do as best as we can.”

“I’ve never met somebody so enthusiastic and passionate about what he does and I’m not going to forget it,” Jessica says.

In honor of his commitment to his students, Mr Moehlmann received a $1000 check from Saint Xavier University.
