CHICAGO -- A man is in custody in connection with the shooting death of a Chicago cab driver, but so far, no charges have been filed.

Chinedu Madu, 51, was shot about 8:45 p.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of South Albany in the Chicago Carriage Cab he leased from the company.

Police say Chinedu died at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Investigators believe the man who shot and killed him was a customer he had picked up downtown and just dropped off and then disappeared on foot somewhere into the neighborhood.

Police say the suspect was arrested Friday morning and charges were pending against the man. They say he has five drug convictions on his record.

It's unclear if the robber got away with anything. Less than $100 was left behind in the cab, along with Chinedu's phone and backpack.

Madu leaves behind a wife and a young son.
