MATTESON, Ill. — Police in the south suburbs are looking for a suspect after a Matteson K9 vehicle was reportedly stolen Monday.

At around 4:15 p.m., authorities said multiple suspects arrived to an auto auction lot near Harlem and Lincoln Highway. They allegedly tried to steal a car before employees intervened.

Authorities said the suspects fled in their own vehicle as the police units arrived. The men bailed out of their vehicle and police followed on a foot pursuit.

One of the suspects ended up stealing the K9 police vehicle and led police on a chase up I-57 and into Harvey. The SUV stopped in a McDonald’s parking lot and the suspect fled on foot.

The officer of the vehicle and his K9 unit were on foot before the vehicle was stolen.

One suspect was immediately taken into custody by a Matteson officer.  A search ensued and two more suspects were located by officers hiding under a deck.

Police have been looking for that man since the pursuit. Multiple agencies conducted a lengthy search of the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

A 15-year-old juvenile, and two adults, 20 and 25, all from Chicago, are in custody.

If you have seen him, please call Matteson police at 708-748-1564.
