LANSING — A man was killed and a police officer wounded during a shootout in a suburban strip mall parking lot.
Police say a man tried to steal items from a the Ultra Foods grocery store near 160th and Torrence around 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Lansing.
Ultra Foods workers called police.
When officers showed up and tried to arrest the suspect, police and witnesses say he took an officer’s gun and shot him.
The suspect then fled with police chasing him.
Investigators said another officer shot the man in front of Carson’s Clearance Center.
The suspect was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
