52-year-old Scott Peters is being held on $1 million bond after his arrest in Crystal Lake Thursday evening.

Peters is charged with two counts of attempted murder and two count of aggravated battery with a firearm.

He was taken into custody after a massive manhunt that lasted more than 15 hours.

The incident began early Thursday morning when officers responded to a domestic dispute call in the 1300 block of West Northeast Shore Drive in Holiday Hills.

Authorities say Peters opened fire on two officers with a rifle.

A male officer is out of surgery and is listed in serious condition.

A female officer was shot in the leg and is in good condition.

Peters’ wife and daughter were able to leave the home safely, and state police armored vehicles were used to help neighbors evacuate the area.

"It reminds me, and it should remind the community, that we should be thankful to police officers, our firemen and our military officers for keeping us safe," said McHenry County State's Attorney Louis Bianchi.
