CHARLESTON, SC — A bond hearing could be held today for the man accused of gunning down 9 people at a church in Charleston, South Carolina.

Dylann Roof was captured Thursday in Shelby, North Carolina.

Authorities say roof spent an hour watching a prayer meeting before killing six women and three men at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

A childhood friend who had recently reconnected with roof says roof had become an avowed racist and had been plotting for months.

Roof confessed to killings to authorities, and said he wanted to start a race war.

The shooting has sparked reaction across the country.

Three people survived Wednesday’s shooting.
