Suburban store clerk killed in armed robbery

JOLIET, Ill. -- Suburban police are questioning two persons of interest in an armed robbery that left two people dead, including a convenience store employee.

Police say shortly after 3 p.m. Monday, two masked men stormed the Gardner Food Mart in the 1000 block of Gardner St in Joliet. One of the suspects was carrying a very large gun.

The 24-year-old store clerk pullout his own weapon and started shooting.

The clerk died in the gunfire.

The suspect with the gun fled and the second suspect was shot and wounded was dropped off at a hospital where he later died.

Investigators say the convenience store is family-owned and the clerk is the owner's son.

No one has been arrested at this time.
