Former suburban firefighter dies after battle with COVID-19

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. — A former suburban volunteer firefighter has died following a battle with COVID-19.

The Sugar Grove Fire Department said Fred Joseph Felella Jr. has died at the age of 59. He previously served with the department as a volunteer/paid-on-call firefighter from 1994-2007.

According to his family and the GoFundMe page made in his honor, Fellella Jr. battled the virus for three weeks and was hospitalized before passing away.
