CHICAGO — Students from the South and West Sides of Chicago held a protest at City Hall Wednesday against the city’s plan to build a new police academy.

Students set up tombstones with names of people killed in police shootings, like Laquan McDonald. The tombstones also had names of schools, mental health clinics and other services the city has closed down.

Protestors say instead of building a new, $95 million police academy in Chicago’s West Garfield park neighborhood, the city should invest in underserved communities.

Chance the Rapper even tweeted his support for the students’ protest.

“Students in Chicago are staging a SIT IN at City Hall right now. I ask that you stop by and show them that you are in SUPPORT of their REVOLUTION. Bring food if you can, these children are fighting for our future kids as well as themselves,” he said.
