15 Illinois counties have not been declared disaster areas by state officials.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will begin an on-site assessment of the damage today to determine how much federal storm relief is needed.

Washington Community High School, which was not damaged by the storms, re-opened Thursday morning.  Elementary and middle schools are expected to re-open on Monday.

Many students were not directly affected by the storms, but they did spend their days off from school helping families and neighbors who were.

For most storm victims, the first relief option is their own homeowners insurance; adjustors from State Farm and other companies are in Washington, visiting homes, estimating repair costs and writing checks to cover their policyholders’ immediate needs, like food and emergency shelter.

The city of Washington has lifted a boil order for homes that still have running water.
