CHICAGO — A Cook County judge says a special prosecutor for the Jason Van Dyke murder trial will be named in early August.

Van Dyke, the Chicago police officer charged with the murder of Laquan McDonald, appeared in court this morning for a hearing.

The judge set his next court date for August 4th and said a special prosecutor would be identified at that time.

Van Dyke is accused of shooting Laquan McDonald 16 times in October of 2014.
